The mosque’s questions will be answered according to the plan” – Mr. Shimels Abdisa
The points mentioned by the president of the region, Ato Shimelis Abdisa, in the discussion with the Supreme Council of Ethiopian Islamic Affairs, are as follows:
1. They stated that it was a mistake not to discuss the matter earlier.
2. They expressed their condolences to the Muslims who lost their lives in the incident.
3. That Sheger City will be built based on religious values and that the institutions of other denominations, including Islam, are mostly included in the Sheger City Plan.
4. That the necessary lands for the religious office will be given to the believers according to the plan and that they want many modern mosques to be built in the city that fit the city’s plan, not by tin.
5. That a large and modern mosque that can be mentioned at the national level in Sheger City and other religious institutions will be provided.
6. That land will be given for the construction of an Islamic University in Sheger City.
7. He said that in order to build Sheger City, which has 20 to 30 million inhabitants, as a modern city where construction is denied only by planning, we want to prevent illegal construction and demolition of what has been built.
8. Until the new Sheger city plan is implemented, the Oromia Regional Majlis and the Sheger city administration should prepare mosques for Muslims living in areas where houses have not been completely demolished.
9. Before the implementation of the Sheger City Master Plan in the coming month of July, the areas prepared for religious institutions in the Master Plan should be checked by Muslim representatives together with the state government.
10. That the mosque requests that the Muslim community has made and will make in Sheger City will be answered according to the plan.
11. That faith institutions and cemeteries will continue to be provided in the entire Oromia region, including Sheger City.
12. Out of the eight hundred (800) institutions of all faiths in Sheger City, 656 (six hundred and fifty-six) were built outside of the plan. The Assembly has strengthened its capacity and said that the government will stop demolishing on its own, instead of asking the religious institutions themselves to demolish those that need to be demolished.
