A police chief was killed in an attack by unidentified gunmen on a vehicle that was traveling from Mizan town in South West region to Methi town in Godere district, Majang ethnic zone in Gambella region. Ato Danye Workneh, Head of Public Relations in Godere District, Gambella Region, told Bisrat Radio that one police officer was injured in the attack.
The attack took place in an area known as Baya in the South West region of Ki district. The attack took place yesterday, June 4, 2015, at around 1:30 p.m.
He said that the killing took place when the policemen were returning to Methi city in the Godere district after completing their training in Mizan city of the southwest region. The attack was carried out by unidentified gunmen armed with weapons.
Godere district police chief Abyot Rocket died in the attack. Another police officer was seriously injured and is being treated at Tepi Hospital, Danye Workneh added to Bisrat Radio.
He expressed that he strongly condemns the act and will cooperate with the judiciary and the concerned parties so that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
