Mekele, Adigrat, and Raya universities will start working in September

Tigray Region

EPD reports that the Ministry of Education has announced that four universities in the Tigray region, which were closed due to the war, will start working in September 2016.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Administration and Development, Solomon Abraha (Dr.) stated that preparations are being made to bring the universities in the Tigray region into a normal teaching and learning process next year.

He said that before the teaching and learning process starts, the situation is facilitated in which food, sleeping, and medical services are fulfilled.

Mekele and Adigrat universities are expected to complete the work that will enable them to start classes in the coming months and start receiving students.

On the other hand, Aksum University has been more affected by the war than other universities, so it may be delayed for some time, he said.

He recalled that the four universities were teaching 45 thousand students before the war, out of which 22 thousand students had to leave and were temporarily assigned to another university to attend their studies.

It is said that these universities are currently admitting about 20,000 students who have not been assigned to another university.

He also pointed out that students who will pass the upcoming national university entrance exam will be assigned to them after studying the readiness of the universities.

The executive stated that the students who attended their studies in the Tigray region and went to another university and finished their studies have not received their educational certificates. They indicated that the results obtained from the university they were currently attending will be sent to the universities of Tigray.

The universities have stated that when they receive the results, they will be able to get a temporary degree that will state their results.
