In the name of the constitutional amendment, mediation is being prepared to destroy the country” – KFO

On May 21, 2015, the Oromo Federal Congress (OFC) stated the study presented by the Ethiopian Policy Research Institute as an amendment to the constitution of the Federal Federation.

In the statement, he accused that “in the name of constitutional reform, the system of national federalism of the United Nations is being undermined and the country is being destroyed.” This three-page statement strongly criticized the Institute’s research.

For example, “Ethiopian Policy Research Institute has selected the pillars of the federal constitution and affirmed that six articles should be improved, including the preamble and emblem of the constitution, the working language of the federal government (Article 5), and the sovereign ownership of nations, ethnic groups and peoples (Article 8).”

According to OFC, it has “extensively reviewed the major issues such as the study methodology, timeliness, lack of authority to conduct the study and the risks that could be caused by the wrong conclusions of this study”.

In a statement, Congress said, “This study is not acceptable after our organization has weighed the opinions of legal, political, historical, and similar experts, as well as the feelings and needs of our nations, nationalities, and peoples.”

He listed 7 points with “Solutions”. “I believe that the research methodology used by the party that conducted this study is highly flawed,” said OFC.

“To understand the problems of 120 million citizens, it was found that the opinion of only 1,123 people was accepted and only 1 person was represented for 106,687 people, which is the opinion of 0.0001% of the people when calculated as a percentage, which reduces the credibility of the research result to zero.” It’s bye.

OFCO continued, “The results presented by pretending that the respondents from Amarana and Sidama regions do not support the national federal system are contrary to the reality on the ground.” He explained.

To show this, he put the following points as an argument.

“While the Amhara forces are currently organized according to their ethnic identity and are fighting for their rights by participating in elections and being embraced by the parliament, it is ridiculous to say that they do not support ethnic organization while they are fighting for their rights by establishing an organization called Fano and recently establishing an organization called the Amhara People’s Front to respect their ethnic rights and establish an Amhara country.” He dismissed it.

“The people of Sidama have been struggling for centuries to govern themselves in their region, and it is far from the truth to say that they supported the idea that the rights of nations should be removed from the constitution, contrary to the rights that they had respected in the referendum two years ago.” He said – OFC
